2021 Essay Competition

The Scholarship Fund hosted an essay competition in honor of the annual June National Caribbean American Heritage Month. The overall theme was “Youths Contributions – Invaluable to Society”

Submission Guidelines


Participants were between 10 – 14 years and selected one of the following topics to write an essay on. The highest possible score of 100 was based on creativity, originality of thought, grammar, spelling, logic, clarity, writing style, and content.

  • Four successful and kind individuals who I admire and why. (Please include your definition of kindness and success)
  • If I had met Shirley Chisholm, Guyanese American and first Black US Congresswoman…
  • Write a letter to Guyanese British Baroness Valerie Amos sharing the qualities of leadership you admire
  • My understanding of leadership and how Caribbean countries can function as one
  • Exploring Space and its importance to the future development of a country
  • Write a letter to former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on your understanding of her following quote: “Great leaders never accept the world as it was and always work for the world as it should be.”
